The Writing On The Wall † Immediately the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace, opposite the lampstand. And the king saw the hand as it wrote. Then the king’s color changed, and his thoughts alarmed him; his limbs gave way, and his knees knocked together. Daniel 5:5–7 ESV The king threw a huge party for a thousand of his lords. He had the gold and silver vessels that were taken from the temple in Jerusalem brought out so they could drink from them. As they did, a hand appeared and wrote a prophecy on the wall. He panicked and called all the wise men together to read it, but they could not. Then Daniel, who served God faithfully, was summoned, and he interpreted the writing. The writing read: “God has numbered your kingdom and finished it. You have been weighed on the scales, and found wanting. Your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.” There were two men in this story. A godless king who had everything, and an exiled eunuch who served God. The city was overrun that night and the party king was killed, but Daniel lived and prospered under the new leadership. Seek God now. Many will try and wait until the very last minute, but in this kings story, it was too late. God is long suffering, but there came a time when He shut the door of the ark (Gen. 7:16). There will again be a time when the door will be shut (Matt. 25:10). Don’t wait until the writing is on the wall to begin a relationship with God. Choose Him now.
