The amazing thing about yoga is that it isnt just an end in and of itself (though practicing can be super fun!) but it provides you with tools for everyday life. I have terrible seasonal allergies, and shoulderstand is one of my favorite ways to relieve my poor sinuses this time of year. (It also reduces stress and fatigue - the perfect compliment to a busy summer social calendar!) Use 2 blankets beneath the back and shoulders to maintain the natural curve in the neck. Start in ha lasagna, wiggling side to side to work shoulders completely under the pose, then bring hands to the low back to lift the legs. Continue pressing down with shoulders and head (without flattening the neck!), moving the pubic bone toward your face and feet away to stack the legs and spine over the shoulders. This is a pose that works best when held for a long time, so stay here for 20+ breaths if possible. Close the eyes for added deep concentration, and leave the pose feeling refreshed, calm and congestion free!
