The appearance of these photos in the media caused Prime Minister Narendra Modi to summon Power Minister Piyush Goyal and give him a dressing down. It seems the PM told Goyal that he expects his ministers to keep an arms length distance from industrialists, whatever may have been their previous equations. The following day, as Goyal was entering his office he found a Reliance Power liaison officer lurking around the Power ministry corridors. Now it was Goyals turn to dish out a dressing down. The liaison official was thrown out. How much of this is makebelieve is anybodys guess. Budget 2014-15 proposes a ten year tax holiday for new power plants, something Anil Ambani and Gautam Adani were lobbying for.
