The art world is getting far too swamped in tribute work and I - TopicsExpress

The art world is getting far too swamped in tribute work and I personally find it really really dull. As a buyer, if you want to have something pretty for your wall to honour a dead celebrity, why not buy an original photograph, autograph, movie poster, record etc. Something that actually has some connection to the dead celeb in question? Rather than some generic portrait thats been done to death? Dont even get me started on the prices people seem happy to pay for that stuff. If youre an artist who makes portraits and you feel inspired to make one because that particular celeb was a favourite of yours, cool. But selling it and reproducing it - not so cool. After all, do you have the permission of that person or their family to do so? Probably not. In which case, it just seems disrespectful. Just my opinion, not aimed at anyone but if I see another portrait of Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Amy Winehouse etc with a massive price tag on it, I might just punch a hole in it and give up art altogether.
