First Womens Hot Air Balloon World Championship Leszno 2014 On Monday September 8th a great air sports event begins in Leszno: First Womens Hot Air Balloon World Championship. Its the first such competition in the history of aviation, which, as we all know, starts from balloons. There will be 40 pilots from 17 countries attending. Women are great balloon pilots, we can see them competing and winning with men. The precision of flight, making fast decisions and timing does not depend on gender. Moreover, balloning does not require muscles – some say „womans intuition” is much more important. So far there were women contests, such as World Cup or European Championship, but there was no global competiton – until now. Poland got this honor from FAI Ballooning Commision, which approved the Aeroclub of Polands request. The main organiser is the Leszno Ballon Club, well known for 23 years long history of The Leszno Cup, formerly The Akwawit Cup. There are 40 pilots who accepted our invitation to World Championship. They will come from 17 countries – from Australia and Japan to USA and Canada. Poland will be represented by five competitors: Beata Choma, Ewa Prawicka-Linke, Ewelina Helak, Joanna Biedermann and Daria Dudkiewicz-Goławska. The World Championship begins on Monday 8th September. At 13.00 there will be a general briefing for all pilots, then crews transfer from Akwawit Hotel (the competition centre) to the Lesznos Market Square. The transfer will be very spectacular – about 40 cars with baskets on trailers and firing burners. At 17.00 the Opening Ceremony will be started with the attendance of many ballooning fans from Leszno. The competition flights start on Tuesday, Semptember 8th, early morning – the last will be on Saturday 13th morning. Usually balloons will be seen in the sky between 7.00 and 9.00 and 17.00 and 19.00. You will see them above Leszno and nearest villages. On Thursday September 11th there will be a competition flight over Dolsk, about 35 kilometers from Leszno. Its a tradition of Lesznos ballooning contests that we have a Night Glow – a special event for all fans. This year we plan to make it on Wednesday 10th of September on Smoczyks Speedway Stadium. It will be an opportunity to meet pilots and see balloons from close distance or even get into basket. Balloons glowing in darkness are very spectacular – you should take your cameras to make excellent photos. A special attraction of the World Championship will be a replica of the 18th century Montgolfier brothers ballon – it will be presented on the Night Glow and also – if there will be a good weather – will fly over Leszno next day. The closing and prizegiving ceremony is planned on Saturday 13th of September in the tent by Akwawit Hotel. First Womens Hot Air Balloon World Championship in Leszno has the Honourable Patronage of Mrs. Anna Komorowska, the First Lady of the Republic of Poland.
