The automatic pricing mechanism: The cruelty of the impersonal macro view over the impact felt by real people. The automatic pricing mechanism, as we know it, is the baby of PTR, born out of its past fling with its current shadow finance minister-that is, if he gets elected at all. Put in place as a tool to stabilise fuel prices- and their impact on the wider economy- this is yet another PTR policy whose only effect, with hindsight, has been to rob Mauritians of the little disposable income they have. For the oil prices have long fallen below the USD 147 peak they had reached around 6 years ago. Yet, would the common man not have preferred to benefit from the reduction in prices when the prices went down? Does a sensible human being prefer paying fuel and energy more than they should be, just for the sake of price stability? Once again, this a policy that favours big business at the cost of the common person. PTR, and their so called cephalic pride, got it all wrong once again. Its not just the economy stupid. Its the impact of your economic policies on people. On 10 December 2014, the choice is between a government who sees people as ancillary (PTR-MMM) or a government who puts PEOPLE AT THE CENTRE OF THEIR EVERY POLICY AND ACTION (ALLIANCE LEPEP)? Big business is important, but if this is at the cost of the wider well being of the nation, the government must address the moral dilemma and strike the right balance. And by any sensible measure, 6 years of building reserves to stabilise prices is not just ridiculous. It is criminal. Whom will you vote for?
