The big 5 consists of: buffalo, lion, leopard, elephant and rhinoceros (originally it was only the black rhino, as these five animals were considered the most dangerous to hunt) So although the giraffe is the tallest animal on Earth and the hippo is a great contender, when it comes to dangerousness, the two are not included, when it comes to the big 5. The term big 5 have since become adopted by the safari industry, as a means of a check list for tourists - these are the most sought after animals to photograph.
