The days have certainly been heating up along with the water Temperature, and weather you went out wide or fished the estuaries, the fish were hitting those baits with aggression. Let’s take a look at the report. The wide bay bar was popular on the week-end and anglers were not disappointed with quality catches of red emperor, Spangled Emperor, Grassy Sweetlip, Coral Trout and Snapper. Mangrove jack were high on the hit list this week with quite a few anglers choosing Kauri Creek as their destination, and with fish up to 50cm, no one was complaining. Tinnanbah ledge has been producing some quality reef fish including estuary cod, Blackall and Squire up to 40cm and Poona has been reporting Quality Flathead in numbers working the sand flats on the making tide. Maaroom and the surrounding estuary system has seen some monster summer whiting up to 40 cm. The preferred bait has been worms or yabbies but for the sports fisherman, chasing those elbow slappers using poppers or stick baits, sure does get the adrenalin going. The Snags and Rock ledges around Fig Tree are loaded with Barramundi at the moment, with some fish well over the 1 metre mark. If you catch and release these fish ensure you support their bellies when taking them out of the water as this will increase there chance of survival. The inshore reefs such as the Artificial, Mickey’s and Sammie’s, were a little quite over the last week however anglers were still able to get a good feed of Grassy Sweetlip, Moses Perch, Estuary Cod and Blackall. The Pelagic action continues to get stronger throughout Hervey Bay waters all the way to the cape with reports of Long tail Tuna, Yellow Fin Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, G.T’s and Cobia taking a wide range of lures from Deep Divers to surface poppers. And what an opening to the Bass session with fish up to 50 cm reported from Tinana Creek, Myrtle Creek and Tiaro.
