The dogs that live on the street in front of my apartment are usually pretty well behaved.There is four regulars but now there are eight or nine.Tonight I heard a big dog barking thing going on and looked out and they were terrorizing this old Mayan man.A women stepped out in to the street and started kicking dogs to keep them away from the man.Another man helped by chasing the dogs away.Must be one of the girls going into heat. My landlord Patti and I will figure out who she is and catch her if we can. Then off to the vet where she will be spayed, We get a discount because of volume I guess, so the cost is about 26$ US.Patti has been doing this for years, so I think she has significantly reduced the number of breed able females in the neighborhood. Sometimes good intentions have bad unintended consequences and In this case .males become more generally aggressive when competition for the few remaining females is so intense.April is a real party month here in Guatemala, kind of a debaucherous free for all leading up to Easter. The entire week before Easter is a national holiday, so the town will just about double in size during that week.Most of the tourists will come from Guatemala city to enjoy the lake and relatively cool weather.-------- Just a side note. In the two months that I have been here I have been approached by about the same number of beggars as you would encounter in a three block walk in San Francisco. Must be that unintended consequence thing again. Let me know when it stops snowing and maybe I will come home, or maybe I am there already. Joe
