The first encounter of fighting for Vanuatu independent in 1912 after deportation of blackbirders from Australia. see here below- FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM OF VANUATU INDEPENDENCE. .Quoted from the library from Mr Tinabua Dick Fakau’ diary in nakanamanga language. “1912 RANGI NATU LAKE ANA NI NATUMANGIDA DOKO ANA”. (THE BINGING OF INDEPENDENCE). During our returning from Australia by 1903 till 1909 to 1910 when all arrived back in new Hebrides, we were discussing our returning, until one day we had a meeting after church on a Sunday at the village of TIKILASOA or TALOA the meeting was mainly on the topic of black man deportation from Australia, During the discussion I asked them “you all who were deported from Australia will want to still be under these two flags or would want to be under one flag? And I asked them how do we get our message across to these two condominium flags? We decided to go to Chief TARIPOA LIU to seek advice on our plan. They said we leave it till tomorrow we will tell him but I said only today we had to short this out. It was 22:00 hrs when I went over to MALALIU and knocked on NAPAUNI MANU’s door he answered and asked who are you? I answered it’s me DICK TINAPUA. What do you want? I said we wanted to talk with you. he opened the door and said young man what did you come for? We want to discuss with you for few minutes and go back down to the sea. And NAPAUNI MANU asked tell me your plans and I will advise on how you guys will go. And we said we want you to see to our deportation from Australia. People present were PILLIE MANUTONGAI, MANATUKORO, JIMMY TAPANGA WIA, TOM TAPAURIPU, HARRY TAMRAMA and some other people that were with us that night to MALALIU village. And everybody agreed and tell him to get our message to the British and French that we don’t want other flags but wanted to be self governed. And he said ok coming Friday I call every village on top here to come together and we will come and meet you guys by the sea. On Friday they all came down and we had the meeting and everybody and those who were deported from Australia agreed that we don’t want to be under any flag. But we want to be under our own flag. We continued meetings and push hard and appoint Mr.Jacomp as our Advocate or lawyer and took our demands to the British and French until we sets up the CONDOMINIUM FRANCE, BRITISH AND NEW HEBRIDES the THREE government to work together until one day when our people are educated and we can govern our own country.
