The larger question here is this - why charge a convenience fee or whatever it is called, for online booking and payments? The benefit to the merchant, be it cinema halls, airlines, railways or whatever, because we customers pay online rather than in cash, is enormous - no cash handling, simpler accounting, almost immediate credit, reduced human interface, no counterfeits, and much more. Delhi Metro and a few other enlightened merchants, on the other hand, give customers a discount for online payments. And that is how it should be. A convenience fee for online transactions is nothing but a sign of a cartel. Or a monopoly. Or a merchant whose employees miss the chance of embezzling cash. economictimes.indiatimes/news/news-by-industry/media/entertainment/entertainment/pvr-challenges-maharashtra-governments-move-to-tax-convenience-fee/articleshow/31559987.cms
