The last hurrah. Labor Day is coming up on Monday and that signals, for me at least, the beginning of fall and the end of summer. It will be a busy weekend as everybody tries to squeeze in one more celebration of warm weather with a BBQ, a picnic or some swimming and boating. Shopping for school clothes and supplies has been in full swing and parents are eager to see their children off to school again, for a variety of reasons. It has been a pretty pleasant summer, with weather that has been neither too hot nor too cold. The only complaint I have about this year’s warm weather break is the number of bees I have had to deal with. Hornets to the left and wasps to the right and yellow jackets in the ground as well. All those projects I started outside will probably never get finished, because reaching Labor Day is like being at the top of a slide and the trip down is so much faster than the climb up. So to all my friends, who are still working or working at being retired, enjoy the weekend as we mourn the passing of another summer.
