The loudest defender of #FreePalestine campaign from the intellectual pedestal, one who has kept the reports and indices of oppression there in the conscience of the world and the media, is a Palestinian Christian. His name is Edward Said. I wont discuss him in past tense because his death has not affected his widely documented resolute activism. If Said has chosen to pander to Christian brotherhood, the way some Nigerian Muslims quote a Muslim is a brother of another Muslim to defend their supports for Palestine while abandoning our local tragedies in need of such passion and empathy, he wouldve aligned with the Israelis who have larger population of members of his faith. Im sure that there are thousands of us who dont even know that there is a large population of Christians in Palestine. In fact, 10 percent of people of Palestinian descent are Christians. What does this tell us? The Israeli - Palestinian conflict defies being labelled squarely religious; I see it as largely a territorial and political conflict between a people of different faiths.
