The motion of Comet Lovejoy against the background stars. People have asked me when the comet is going to fly over, like its the International Space Station or something. Its not like that. Comets appear in the sky like the stars and planets, rising and setting each night during their apparitions. But they are moving against the stars, and their daily motion is so great that it can be seen at this level of magnification.
