The new Revell Spitfire, which OOB is a Spitfire Va, not a Spitfire IIa. Revell based this on Spitfire V AR213, perhaps the most highly-modified early Spitfire preservation. They even managed to do the gear bulges on the wing like the ones on AR213. If youre willing to spend the price of the kit again on resin corrections you can turn it into a Spitfire IIa. Pick up a resin cockpit while youre at it. But dont expect all that to make it right, because they managed to mis-measure a real one, and this will still be wrong as to position of the cockpit, fuselage length and width, wing chord thickness. (Dont believe me, go read Derek Bradshaws very careful analysis at Large Scale Planes) Since its a Spitfire Va, I used Lifelike Decals 32-013 Spitfire V Part 2 sheet to do Douglas Baders W3185, in which he was lost over France on August 9, 1941. I used the Hasegawa deHavilland prop/spinner (more right than the kit prop) and wheels from a Greymatter conversion set. Overall: a swing and a miss. Not quite as unsuccessful a swing as the Dragon P-51D, but real close. The overdone surface detail will not disappear under a coat of paint.
