The onset of the Southwest summer monsoon across Arizona and New Mexico brought moderate precipitation (0.5-2.0 inches) to portions of the Four Corners region. July is the monsoonal season for the region and should help relieve some of the extreme drought conditions in New Mexico that have plagued the region for the past few years. There is hope for a wetter pattern this fall and winter as El NiƱo shows signs of development this year. The maps below show the most recent drought monitor along with the seasonal drought outlook released for the period June 19 through Sep 30, 2014.
