American Sniper: C+ I have nothing bad to say about Bradley Cooper. He is clearly all in with his performance and he was pretty great. My problem is with the direction and editing. The film is very slow and edited to feel rather impersonal. Almost like a documentary minus narration, the film wonders through events without any real connection or emotional weight. We hardly get to understand Kyle before or after the war in any dimension other than his unflinching need to serve his country. I also had a problem with how cliched the final sequence against the enemy sniper was executed. Occasionally we get real moving scenes, like him weeping at the bar, but they are to far and in between.
