The past few months have been spent orchestrating my new musical The Great Houdini and rehearsing/MDing the revival of Eingefädelt - das Musical in Biedenkopf. But the true soundtrack to my summer has been the simply joyous CD Crimson/Red by Prefab Sprout. Its never left the CD player. As one commentator on youtube put it. Its the best album by anybody in a long time. Plays like a greatest hits collection. All songs written/sung , all instruments played by one man. The only other collaborator is the producer. An outstanding, inspiring collection of songs all made by two men. I love Beyonce and Rihanna, but anyone noticed how many people they think it takes to make a hit song, let alone a whole album? My favourite track: poetic, eliptical lyrics that nobody can really understand, but from which everybody can extract meaning. Its amazing what gets left out in the snow I have danced around various accomodations in Biedenkopf and Berlin to this track.

Judy Garland sang this song on her CBS show on this day in 1964.
