The peoples General. Read this Preye Aganaba WITH RIGHT LEADERSHIP, NIGERIA HAS POTENTIAL TO SUCCEED - BUHARI ...As Buhari applauds Amaechi on good governance Buhari, a detribalized Nigerian - Amaechi Former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari has commended Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for the string of achievements in the state, noting that Amaechi had already written his name in gold in history. Buhari made the commendation while addressing a mammoth crowd of APC supporters in Government House, Port Harcourt on Tuesday and also paid a courtesy call on the governor where he made the same remarks. “I must sincerely congratulate your governor (Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi). Port Harcourt is one of the places I served when I was in uniform. When we drove down, I saw the quality infrastructure he is putting on the ground. He has already secured a place in history for himself. No matter what happens from now till the end of time, people will know what Amaechi has done to Rivers State and to Nigeria. I congratulate your Excellency,” He said. Buhari said he was encouraged by the large enthusiastic crowd of APC supporters who came to welcome him. He explained that he had been going round the country making consultation with state governors and their people for their support and understanding towards his presidential bid. He decried the insecurity in the North-East and kidnapping in the South-South, stating that the APC would turn the country around when it clinched power. “We have this intention to stabilize the system because as I said about 25 years ago, we have no other country but Nigeria, so the APC now is very much in a hurry in a decent way to make sure we do two most important things for this country: to secure it and manage it efficiently. “I want Nigerians, and APC God willing, will deliver it, that Nigerians will go to bed with both eyes closed. They will wake up confidently and go and pursue their legitimate business. We will make sure we set up industries, we upgrade agriculture, we have to do solid mineral to make sure most of you here, the youth have jobs to do, whether you finish your school or not, the government will get job for you so that you can live a respectful life. “I am not out for campaign but I will like to restate my position that in APC, we have come together to salvage this country from misgovernance, from impunity,” Buhari said. He blasted the ruling PDP for its impunity and lack of concern for the problems facing Nigerians. Buhari said Nigeria has potential to succeed and with right leadership in place, positive things would begin to happen. While noting that the best system of governance is multi-party democracy, Buhari berated politicians for their self-centredness and individualistic nature when they are in power. He warned against manipulating next year’s election results and called on Nigerians to vote and ensure their votes count. Buhari while recalling the unfortunate rift between Rivers State and the Federal Government however commended Governor Amaechi for being bold and courageous and maintaining his composure in the midst of the crisis. “I have been quite close to Rivers State and I had been disturbed very much so by the relationship between Rivers government and the centre, but all the same, I admire the courage of the governor here, the way he takes it and the way he maintains control and support of his people. It’s not easy under the environment of the PDP but I must sincerely congratulate him”, he said. Responding, Governor Amaechi expressed appreciation to the former head of state for the visit, explaining that the struggle to better Nigeria was for national interest. He also said the All Progressives Congress (APC) had solution to the country’s mounting challenges. “I must thank you for going round the country to express your intention to run for President next year. We are grateful that you came. We are conscious of the fact that the struggle is not about us, it’s about Nigeria. We are tired of learning democracy every year. “Any time you talk to somebody that there is too much corruption, that there is failure in governance, they will say we are learning democracy. Anybody who is a child at 20 will need to see a doctor and because they are saying that we are learning democracy and we are still children that is why we have introduced APC. “You know you won’t know the metaphor of APC until you remember when you were very young. Whenever we had headache in the past, APC found a solution to our headache. Children of 20, 25 may not remember but if you are 37, 38, you will remember. Now you call Panadol but Panadol does not cure as good as APC used to cure if you remember and any headache that APC cannot cure, then you need to see a doctor for malaria. “So, the metaphor of APC is metaphor of healing and when you get the metaphor of healing, it comes with people who are in pain and need rescue and need to be reassured and to be treated and need to be cured”. Amaechi lamented falling oil revenues in the country and the lack of development in the nation. He commended Buhari for his anti-corruption posture, noting that the country was in pain and needed to fight corruption. “Nigeria is in pain and the greatest sickness of Nigeria currently is corruption. One thing I like about you (Buhari) is that anybody you talk to, your enemies, your friends all agree that you are not corrupt. I have never met a Nigerian who told me you are corrupt. “If I were to be President, I would address power first because if you address power, you address industrialization and industrialization will create employment and employment will reduce insecurity. When you address these then you address corruption. But key is, if you don’t address corruption, you cannot address power because it is the money you require to deal with power, it is that same money we are putting in our pocket that you need to deal with industrialization’, Amaechi said. For corruption, Amaechi said only a transparent leadership would take the country out of the menace and improve infrastructure. He also called on the current leadership in the country not to turn a blind eye to the corruption problem. The Rivers State governor who doubles as Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum disproved claims that Buhari was not liked by some Nigerians on religious grounds. He explained that the former head of state was loved by Nigerians from across religious divides, describing him as a true nationalist and detribalized Nigerian. Among those on Buhari’s entourage were Chief Audu Ogbe, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari and Senator George Akume among others. Press Unit Government House, PH.
