The photos tell the story here but a little explaining might help... # The dead chest freezer first had the lid removed. # Holes were drilled for wiring, thermostat probe and ventilation. # Ceramic light sockets (ebay) were attached to a bit of wood. # Wiring was attached to sockets and bit of wood was screwed into position. # Hinges were attached (pop rivets) to top of window. # Window was attached at the top of brooder with pop rivets and with adjusting screw at bottom (for more ventilation). # 75 watt Ceramic heat emitter (ebay) and 60 watt light were screwed into sockets. Most of the time the light globe gives off enough heat so the heat emitter (set at 30 degrees for the first week then dropped to 25) running through the thermostat only switches on occasionally. On warm days I have the window partly down and propped up with a bit of wood. The power cords I used were ex pc cords but any safe power cord will do. Im not giving a description of how I did the wiring. If youre unsure of how to do it you should call an electrician. Safety first. For bedding I lay down newspaper and cover with 3cm of oaten chaff.
