The time has come to wrap up Summer Odyssey 2014. Got home to Fripp Island last night (back a few days early so I can prep for the academic year) & have been unpacking the rv, doing mounds of laundry, cleaning the rv from stem to stern, going thru piles of mail, balancing checkbooks, etc, etc. (Took time to say hello to the ocean & marsh) Our engineer & nursing professor nerdyness beckoned us to gather & share data about the 45 day Odyssey. Traveled approximately 4,944 road miles, 2,215 train miles, 2,370 air miles & 424 bicycle miles with 21 transportation modes: rv, personal car, bicycle, airport shuttle, Amtrak trains, city shuttle, Glacier Park Red Bus, rental car, walk, monorail, Duck, local ferry, international ferry, double-decker bus, taxi, water taxi, US Airways planes, pick-up truck, paddlewheel boat, Branson Scenic Railways train, & Shepherd of the Hills tram. We visited 19 states & 1 country (SC, NC, VA, WVA, OH, IL, IN, MO, WI, MN, ND, MT, WA, OR, AK, KY, TN, GA & Canada-Victoria BC), 12 wineries in WA & MO & 4 National Parks (Glacier, Mt St Helens, Mt Rainer, Olympic). Camped in 2 state parks, 2 city parks, 5 private campgrounds & 1 state fairground; stayed in 1 B&B, 2 historic hotels (Marcus Whitman in Walla Walla & Empress in Victoria BC); had 3 bike flats (1-me, 2-David) & 1 RV flat. We encountered countless lagniappes & serendipitous discoveries, fabulous food, beautiful scenery, wonderfully interesting people, & had the time of our lives! We are grateful for this opportunity to play with abandon. Thanks to those folks who decided to follow our little journey on FB!
