The top man: Being the top man, top star whatever you want to call it for a wrestling company is not easy and it is a VERY critical spot. That is the guy who draws the fans into the arena. He is the one that people pay to see. Everybody else on the card plays a role and is part of the show but you are not the one people pay to see. The top spot should ALWAYS revolve around your championship also. That being said being a great mechanic in the ring has nothing to do with that role. Getting over has everything to do with it. Heres the news flash for those of you who think you know what this business is about- personality gets you over, not doing moves. If your top guy is not getting it done then business suffers. There are literally a handful of them in this era of wrestling that I have witnessed in my life time. Guys the company was built around. Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Dusty Rhodes, Bruno Sammartino. These guys carried promotions on their backs. They got fans into the buildings. Other guys they tried it with but it didnt work, Diesel, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Eddie Gurerro, Chris Benoit. Didnt make it as top guys. They either didnt stay long in that spot or business went down during their run.
