The transfer window IS open, so why haven’t Arsenal announced - TopicsExpress

The transfer window IS open, so why haven’t Arsenal announced these two signings? There has been much discussion on here about whether the transfer window really is open or not, and I can assure you that it DEFINITELY is open. In England it opened on the last day of the season and transfers between British clubs can be ratified straight away, but most players contracts run from July 1st each year, which is why they are not totally completed until that date. The French window opened on June 9th, but again, although clubs can happily announce agreements at any time, they cannot sign the final contract until the EUROPEAN window opens on July 1st. As you can see from Chelsea, Man City and Man United they have no qualms about making early announcements. Now Arsenal are a different case and seem to love the speculation to go on as long as possible. For instance the Sanogo saga – two weeks ago both player and Wenger both said it was a done deal but just needed a couple of things ironed out. So how long does it take to finalise a free transfer to Arsenal? Likewise, everyone and his dog has announced that Arsenal have nicked another youngster from Barcelona (centre-back Julio Pleguezuelo) as another free agent, but yet again, there has been absolutely nothing officially announced by Arsenal, either in the papers or on the official website. Could it be that Arsenal are pedantically refusing to make it official until the papers are signed on July 1st? Or do they simply like to keep negotiations going as long as possible? These two signings may not be the top, top, top players that Gooners are looking for, but an initial announcement may convince the Arsenal fans that the club is actually doing something this summer…..
