The truth holds a firm grip on our minds. A true statement, a true look, a true meal--- these things satiate our lives in unspeakable ways. The truth holds a magical power on our collective lives, on our culture, on our agriculture. The truth is that our current system of agriculture does not actually feed the world. The truth is that our most fertile ground is not used to grow food- it is used to feed cars with ethanol, to feed hospitals with high fructose corn syrup induced diabetes, to feed ruminants who thrive on grass- grain. The truth is America does not feed the world. The truth is that Cargill, Monsanto and ConAgra are not good-hearted non-profit organizations trying to end starvation in Africa. The truth is that these companies pretend to be independent behind hired PR firms paid with subsidies from tax payer dollars. The truth is that the grains produced by industrial agriculture are sold to the highest bidder--- which is usually China or Russia. So lets start with the truth- we do not feed the world.
