The uncommon orange tipped tail feathers of the CEDAR WAXWING - TopicsExpress

The uncommon orange tipped tail feathers of the CEDAR WAXWING along side the typical yellow tailed tail feathers at my bird bath just now! Only 2 to 3 percent of the Waxwing population will be orange tailed! It is caused from the red pigment intake from the berries of an introduced species of honeysuckle! If enough of the berries are eaten while the bird is developing tail feathers, the tip of the tail feathers will be orange! ( Irving)
