The unintended consequences of capitalist competition is the tendency of the rate of profit to decline giving rise to monopolisation, sclerosis, bankruptcy and the preclusion of any further growth. That is the real invisible hand at work here. Capitalism has come to the end of its road. Neither stimulation nor austerity can save it. The first is like administering CPR to a corpse and the second are the preparations for its burial. That it was always a historically contingent system is now obvious to anybody who has the eyes to see it.
