Theophillus Gayika’s THE GREED #INSERT2 -Bra Eddie hurried back home and found that the kids were still getting ready to take their Bath and the Heater already switched off… “Anigodoli Phof Bantwana of the kids…”Sukhathazeka ngalonto vah baby”… he took a 5litre empty bottle, Electricity Coupon and Couple empty plastic bags and he went to the nearest open shop… he bought R100 electricity, 5litres of Paraffin, 50Biscuits of Weet Bix, 2Cartons of milk, Butter, two trays of Sausage, French Polony, Oros Concentrated Orange Flavor, Yoghi-sip for everyone and Packets of Simba Chips he then asked for plenty of R1 big coins with that Springbok emblem on it and then returned home… He started by Cutting the cable supplying electricity supplying to Quli’s (His working Nephew) Cabin outside…Put the Electricity back on and was able to use the stove to warm milk and made cereal for the Kids… he made them very nice lunch boxes and put the snacks for each kid on their school bags without telling them, and then Surprised them with R1 each… they were so overjoyed the smiles on their faces made Bra Eddie’s heart to skip couple of beats… seeing the kids that happy brought tears in Bra Eddie’s eyes… the Kids never had any Pocket Money to school before… this was like a Christmas before Christmas for them… they couldn’t wait to get to school finally after they were finished and off they went to school but Bra Eddie demanded a kiss on the cheek from each and everyone of them… He then went to their Neighbor’s house and asked to make a Phone Call to his Sister… he offered the Priest R5 for his generosity which the Priest refused to take but Bra Eddie insisted that he takes it… he called his Sister in East London and told her about the Opportunity presented by Coca Cola and his fears of akwa Nokholeji”…she was very happy she couldn’t hold her tears… tears of Joy*…Bra Eddie knew his Sister was being Physically abused by his possessive and heavy drinking husband… somehow he knew this was Gods way of answering his Prayers it was not coincidence… Now he can go to School without worrying about who will look after the Family his Sister will be there all the Time… he went back home and took a proper warm bath because earlier he just wiped the upper body with cold water after he was done he noticed that his mother was up so he made her a warm cup of Coffey with warm milk then served her in bed with Cereal…he then locked the Fridge with padlock and took the padlock keys with him to the interview…everything went well he got financial support and they were going to assist him for two years… -The Time came for him to study and he enrolled at Forthare University in the Eastern Cape at the beginning of the following year… he Studied for two Full years and he had to drop out just after Mandela was President and he Find a stable Job at Goodyear a huge Tire Company in Uitenhage… He extended his Mother’s house working hand in hand with his Sister… Most of his Nephews and Nieces were already staying in different places by now… he had to work because her sister was paying Peanuts at Hella a Hooter, Auto Windows, Auto Mirrors and Auto Lights Company where she was working… Bra Eddie decided to Quit his Job to open a hair Salon something that a University friend of his introduced to him and loved… his Friend Nomalizo was very Passionate about hair she even quit Varsity to open her Salon and the business was very good because her salon was Number one in the Eastern Cape… she told Bra Eddie everything he needed to know about hair and running a Classy yet Professional Salon… he took a huge gamble and Quit his guaranteed salary at Goodyear to open a Salon in Angola… he employed 3 people and trained them himself… he also went for professional hair care training which he graduated with flying colors… the business was putting food on Bra Eddie’s table but truth be told it wasn’t doing good at all… he was just running it just by the love of hair now… two employees of his even quit their jobs… he was left with one loyal employee who understood Bra Eddie’s Situation and would even miss about two payments in a row… she always got paid late but she never left Bra Eddie’s side… she believed in him because Bra Eddie gave her sense of living… after a long while operating on a loss he had no choice but to close his business down… He applied for a Job in the local firms which he was employed at Volkswagen South Africa a Car manufacturing company in Uitenhage… He never forgot his loyal former employee… He sent her money when he got paid on a regular basis until Bra Eddie was retrenched by Volkswagen and was out of Job again… -On one cold Wednesday evening Bra Eddie was watching Television alone at home when Live Lotto Draw came on… Just outside his home there local boys who were playing Cricket and making a noise… the boys loved to play in front of Bra Eddie’s house until it was dark, being it was Soccer, Touch Rugby or even Cricket because the was a working street lamp there so it was a perfect spot for them to play games until night comes… Their game was interrupted by the noise coming from Bra Eddie’s home… “YES! OW YES!! MAMA!! MAAAAMA!!! WE DID IT DAD’WETHU YES!!! OW LORD YOU ARE GREAT!!!!!! MAMA OW LORD ALL SIX OF THEM WHOOOOOO!!!! OW GOD LET ME DOUBLE CHECK!!!! IT’S 6-13-28-29-37 AND WHOO WOOO YES 41 ZIZO ZONKE… IZOBONA MNTAKAMAMA… Bra Eddie played Lotto for the first the previous day since it was a highest South Africa Lotto Jackpot ever…He just won 87million Rand before the taxes… now he was waiting to see the deductions and to see how many people who won and to know how many of them are their going divide their share of 87million among…the Boys in the street thought Bra Eddie was crying… they thought that Bra Eddie’s Mother just died and Bra Eddie was being emotional… the Dogs in front of the house even ran away that’s how loud Bra Eddie was screaming… His Sister came in running from the outside toilet to witness why was his brother screaming so loud… after Bra Eddie showed her his winning ticket they both screamed and jumped up and down in excitement… Bra Eddie’s Sister was a very emotional person so she wept not believing what just happened to them… -Bra Eddie took his Identity Document and went straight to the local shop where he bought the ticket the previous day… he found the most Cashier that hated his guts so much… he never knew why the lady who happens to be the shop owner’s daughter why she hated him so much… He never bothered to ask her why though he didn’t care about that at all… He went towards the Lotto Kiosk and as usual the lady behind the counter started to look unimpressed making funny things with face... As usual Bra Eddie wasn’t bothered himself about her he just took out his Lotto ticket and gave it her… “Ndilenze ntoni eliphepha kengoku?”…she said with the most annoying voice while chewing her gum like a hooker in the most dangerous area…”bendicela undijongele ukuba aliwinanga eli-ticket please?”…”Sies niyasokolisa yazi…i-Lotto iyadlala qho ngolwesithathu, why ungazijongelanga?”…she snatched the ticket out of Bra Eddie’s hand completely annoyed by him and she slowly went to the Lotto machine and put the ticket in a slot… “Boom!”…a loud Bang* sound made everybody in the Spaza Shop to stop and look where was the sound coming from… it was the Spaza Shop daughter who collapsed after seeing the winning Lotto ticket for the first time in her life… People tried to wake her up and she wasn’t able to so the Ambulance had to be called in for her… Bra Eddie took his ticket and help her get into Ambulance after the lady was taken to Hospital Bra Eddie call the Lottery number and told them that he was in possession of the winning ticket… He was then asked few Security questions and was advised to sign his ticket at the back and keep it in the safe place then visit the Lotto offices in Port Elizabeth as soon as possible… he then took a taxi to PE Walmer Park where he was taken to one of the accountant’s and financial advisor’s office… they started by double checking if the ticket was legit and valid… everything was in Order and Bra Eddie wasn’t going to share his winnings with anyone since he was the only Jackpot winner that week… He was then asked, what he was Planning to do with his new found wealth …”I haven’t thought that far yet but I can sleep on that… I’m still shaking from excitement… but I would love to open an International Beauty Salon in one of the busiest malls though that I’m sure about it”… Bra Eddie told the financial advisors… “So Mr. Zweni it’s time to take a Picture with your dummy cheque for the News Papers and SABC”…”No Sir I’ll pass I don’t want my face to be published it’s too risky and that might invite family members I never knew I had”…Bra Eddie told the two young white guys as the Champaign made its way in their office and plenty of Lottery employees came in making all sorts of noises from whistling to drum beating then it was Celebration time… Bra Eddie’s wish was respected and No one took his Photo… he was then given his real Cheque to put it in a safe place and it was time for him to go home… He was then taken home by a black stretched Limo* #THEGREED (To Be Continued…) #Funkmaster
