There is certainly merit to criticizing those who spread faulty, inaccurate, silly and potentially dangerous information and propaganda regarding health, weightloss, fitness etc. Gotta call them out, right? We want peeps to be happy, right? But the best way to do it is not jumping on the hate train. Its not calling them names. Its not judging those who like em. Its not boycotting, using distorted thinking (ie: labeling all statements they make absurd) or comparing them to dictators. Those are emotional reactions, and though valid in their own right, do nothing to help educate, help or further the cause youre so passionate about. What does help? Countering bad info with good info. And facts, not opinions. And personal stories, told from a first person you-might-be-different point of view. Fairness. Compassion. Class. Not name calling. Because when I get the feeling that someone has a personal vendetta, it immediately discredits most of what they have to say. I dont like Dr. Oz, as in the TV personality and show. But if Im fair, some of the info he provides is good. Some of the mistakes hes encouraged have been invaluable life lessons for some. Some of the tactics hes employed on the show were designed to help, even if they dont. At the end of day, am I gaga for Oz? Nah. Do I recommend him? Nah. But will I call him and the millions who follow him assholes? Nah. When you hop on the hate train, youll find lots of support. And applause. But what you wont find are the people you are trying to help. Because the moment you jumped on the hate train, they stopped listening. So, vent to your buddies. Own your dislike. Avoid those peeps you think suck. But remember your goal. If you want people to rally in your hate, hate away. But if you want to give them good info that can help them, hate will only alienate. #justamightythought
