There was a post this morning of a lady that had lost her car key - TopicsExpress

There was a post this morning of a lady that had lost her car key at a pumpkin patch and the owner had found it only not to have the ladys contact information. It made me think of when I joined the Air Force. I was going with a girl and we had exchanged class rings. I had kept it safe all the way through Basic Training. I had been able to dodge KP duty for those five weeks. After Basic, I got my orders to report to Air Police school, which was on the other side of the base. My first week in school, as luck would have it, I was assigned the dreaded KP. KP duty on a large base, for those of you that never had to do it, consisted of washing these very large pans, among other not so pleasant jobs. And again, as luck would have it, I was assigned the dreaded pans. Automation was still years away and this had to be done by hand. Fearing that I might lose her ring I removed it from my little finger and placed it in the front pocket of the whites that I was given for the KP duty. Again as luck would have it, they didnt do laundry on the whites except on weekends. The guys would pull them off at the end of the day and throw them in a huge pile in the corner of the Chow Hall. I think you know where this is going, yes, at the end of the day I removed my whites and threw them in the middle of literally a thousand sets of whites. When I got back to the Barracks, I showered and had dinner. Later that night I realized her ring was gone. I panicked. I rushed back to the Chow Hall only to find it locked up. I returned to the Barracks and checked the duty roster only to find that the next day I was assigned the very plush job of CQ (Charge Of Quarters). It was a job that everyone loved so I had no problem trading assignments with one of the guys that had KP duty. Well, the next morning my plans were to get there early and go through as many of the whites as I could and then report for duty. Then on my breaks I would return to the pile and continue looking until they closed the doors or I found the ring, which ever came first. I walked into the room and the very first pair of whites I picked up was the ones I had on the day before. I was ecstatic until I realized that I had to do KP all day, and again, as luck would have it, I was assigned to washing those damn pans!
