Theres a fitness dude, whos got some great ideas in terms of training and transverse plane training, but hes also become known for spouting bullshit about the Deadlift being useless and equating it to ape-like training. The Deadlift is FAR from useless in both rehab, life, and performance settings. One of this trainers signature moves is a staggered stance one arm KB swing. A great movement hitting multiple planes of motion and anatomical muscle slings. But even this movement is a progressed Deadlift. Depending on a persons goals, movement capacity, injuries etc, a Deadlift may not be the primary portion of their training, but we may use regressions or progressions of the movement. For surfers, I have all my guys at some point working on a Deadlift, and then, dependant on goals or needs, would likely progress to something more dynamic, or more explosive, or more rotational..... But the Deadlift, the ability to control the spine, load the hips, hip hinge, and control your body in that manner is critical..... And then progress to more strength moves if applicable, rotational moves if applicable, single leg Deadlift moves if applicable ... Etc. the Deadlift is a solid move. Dont listen to bullshit. Just find out where it fits into your training and your goals. I can help you with that if youve got questions.
