There’s no shortage of videos of people dumping a large bucket of ice water over their head. It’s definitely the latest trend in social media- but contrary to previous trends, this one holds significance for Carolinas HealthCare System, our ALS patients and their loved ones. Each participant of the ice bucket challenge must dump a bucket of freezing water over their head. If they dont accept and complete the challenge within 24 hours, they are asked to donate to ALS research or a charity of their choice. Once they complete the challenge, they then challenge a friend, family member or co-worker to do the same. Not only is this raising awareness for an incredibly challenging disease- but it’s raised a substantial amount of money for ALS research- which is desperately needed, as there currently is no cure. The ALS team at Carolinas HealthCare System is devoted to the research, treatment and care of ALS patients all over the region. They support the ice bucket challenge…now we ask you to support the work they do every day!
