“There’s something very freeing about losing the anchors that have always defined you. Frightening, sad, but exhilarating in a poignant way, as well. You’re free to float to the moon and evaporate or sink to the bottom of the deepest ocean. But you’re free to explore. Some people confuse that with drifting, I suppose. I like to think of it as growing.”--Deborah Smith I have always felt like a drifter; never really knowing where Im headed next but enjoying the ride life has supplied me. I wouldnt be who I am without this. This year marks 10 years out of high school. I couldnt have planned the things I have done in these past 10 years even if I had tried. I set free as soon as I finished high school (something I believe everyone needs to do!). As soon as I finished college, I moved to Montana to work with my mom. Then after that ended I went on a 4 month road trip across 25 states, covering 12000 miles. After a short stay in Las Vegas I migrated to the beautiful city of Portland. Never once have I questioned my decisions to go where Ive gone, do what Ive done and be who I am. I didnt mean for this to turn into a life story...but sometimes you need an example from someones who done it, whos been there and who is a drifter. Its an amazing experience! But like Deborah states, its not drifting, its growing! All of these experiences have made me into me! I guess what Im trying to say is GET OUT THERE AND EXPERIENCE LIFE! You may be labeled a drifter. People may not understand you, but THATS OKAY! Its up to you to define yourself. It isnt always easy, but in the end its worth it!!!
