Think On These Things By Bevel Jones Whats your problem? We all have them--just different kinds. Im not cynical when I say life is one problem-solving situation after another. Dr Norman Vincent Peale came across a great businessman who had a regimen for solving a problem. Dr. Peale has practiced it personally and passed it along to many people 1. Dont panic. Keep calm. Remember this isnt the end of the world. 2. Dont be overwhelmed by your problem. Avoid over-reacting. Guard against dramatizing your situation. Face up to the circumstances realistically but deliberately. Remember that you have resources! God is as real as the problem! 3. Practice De-confusion, because a problem generally comes loaded with confusion. A good way to de-confuse a problem is to take a pencil and paper and write down every aspect of it. This will help clarify your condition, free you from the blurring effect of emotional upheaval. 4) Dont engage in post-mortems. Forget about yesterday and past failures. Dont nurse regrets, thinking Why did I do that? Why didnt I do this? If I had only.....I, Oh, I wish I hadnt done that! Attack the problem from where you are now. 5) Take one step at a time, , Dont try to deal with the whole crisis at once. Break the problem up into segments you can get a hold of. If you deal with a situation in a sequence of sensible steps, you will see the solution develop in due time. One step leads to another and so on to the final resolution. Put a reign on your imagination, or it will run away with you. 6) practice creative listening. Dr Peale tells about an executive who would walk with his old dog out in the woods. He would sit down on a stump with his dog lying at his feet looking up at him. He would begin thinking through his problem out loud to his dog, to the air, and to God. Then all of a sudden Harry would hear deep within the voice of God. He and his dog would then go home. Through creative listening he found ways of coping with his problems. 7) Always ask what is the RIGHT thing to do in a given situation. If what you do isnt the right thing, its the wrong thing. No problem is really handled successfully until it is handled right. 8)Keep on praying, keep on believing, keep on working. No problem is without some kind of solution. There are no pat answers, but you can work it out with Gods help. If you despair, plow on through the darkness. Eventually the light will shine.
