This Day of Fools will be marked by great sadness in lieu of smiles. Virtually the entire global citizenry of our species will be insulted and sickened by the self-serving actions of the so-called leaders of the Province of British Columbia. Today, the BC Liberal Government uphold their back-room campaign promises to the Guide Outfitters Assoc. (& others) and open their Spring killing season of grizzly bears for trophies. This anthropocentric industry of destruction hides behind partial truths, or whole lies, claiming science, wildlife management, and sustainable harvest. They disregard peer-reviewed studies, ignore independent, objective science, and argue that we can all benefit economically from viewing live grizzly bears and then killing them for kicks. We (~90% of humanity) have no more time for political spin-doctoring. Ecological, economic, ethical - this ongoing debate about the symptoms masks what is at the core of this sickness. The disease is emotional/mental illness. To continue to condone, promote and perpetuate this abhorrent behaviour is not foolish, it represents a critical threat to the health and stability of our species global sanity. When self-aggrandizement involves the wanton destruction of life, a definitive line in emotional/psychological wellness has been crossed. The time has come for behavioural scientists/psychologists to diagnose, describe, and prescribe affirmative actions against the plethora of negative effects these abusive empowerment model psyches are having on our culture, our species, and the biosphere. Ted Bundy and Col. Russell Williams were trophy killers, the only difference was their choice of animal. This is NOT hunting for subsistence/food. It is killing for ego.
