This afternoon, along a strict party line vote, the Senate passed - TopicsExpress

This afternoon, along a strict party line vote, the Senate passed a proposed constitutional amendment to give the seven members of the State Supreme Court power to elect the Chief Justice. For the past 126 years, this position has been based on seniority. In my opinion this is a partisan effort that would increase the divisiveness already evident in the Court. The Assembly is likely to pass this proposed amendment on Thursday, after which, it will come before the voters on the spring ballot this April.
