This is Tony. Hes a (seemingly)nice homeless guy; I see him every morning on my way to work, as I walk down 33rd St, and it breaks my heart. I brought him some hot coffee and food, and instead of walking away, I decided to find out about his story. He lost his business in 2009, along with his fiancee and his mother, and everything else he had, and has been in and out of shelters since. I asked why and he said the conditions in those shelters are almost worse than being on the street, and the people working in some of them shouldnt be. As I was getting saddened by his story, he tells me that he has managed to stay positive and that hes changed his view on people, as hes been so blessed by the kindness of others. More than a roof over his head, he just wants people to see him and not be invisible. He thanked me for the food and the conversation, and gave me the biggest smile. I thought I was going to make him feel better, and he ended up comforting ME. Certainly puts things in perspective. Count your blessings people.
