This is a question I am commonly asked: Why Does My Indoor Cat - TopicsExpress

This is a question I am commonly asked: Why Does My Indoor Cat Need to be tested for Intestinal Parasites (a fecal sample)? This answer is compliments of the NYS Veterinary Medical Association. 1 Other animals and people in the home who go outside can bring parasites in that affect indoor cats, (on shoes and paws). 2 Cockroaches, mice and flies can carry roundworm eggs. Flies and cockroaches have been shown to be transport hosts for Toxocara (the roundworm). Cats are natural hunters and could be exposed by catching these insects. 3. 15% of potting soil for indoor plants contains roundworm eggs. Cats love to play in potting soil and indoor plants. 4. 14 % of the US population is infected with roundworms, a parasite of dogs and cats that can be passed from pets to people. Having us check a fecal sample is a simple way to protect you and your family from parasites. Hope this helps. Dr.L
