This is a repost of sorts, but alum Leland Krych says that there are officially TWO spots opening up in his NIH lab for postbaccalaureate students: One is oriented around clinical psychology and the other around behavioral neuroscience (very similar to stuff being done in Loris lab). Get in touch with him via email to learn more: [email protected] Lab description: Dr. Carolyn Beebe-Smith pioneered a technique that allows for the quantification of cerebral protein synthesis in vivo. Most of our work is framed around using this technique to quantify cerebral protein synthesis and dissect how it contributes to pathologies and normal physiological states of the brain. At this time we are currently studying sleep, Fragile X syndrome and Alzheimers disease. We use a wide array of experimental techniques in this lab including Positron Emission Tomography, biochemical assays (BCA, Immunohistochemistry, Autoradiography, Western Blots, and Blood-gas analyses), and rodent-behavioral tests (Passive Avoidance, three chamber social approach assay, elevated zero maze, open field, social learning of food preference, and a learning and memory task similar to the one used in Loris lab). The NIH is an excellent stop for anyone considering medical school or Graduate school. To be accepted to this program you need to apply to the NIH Post-baccalaureate IRTA program. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in applying to this program.
