This is a truly amazing doco on the annihilation of our co inhabitants of the oceans of our world. It has historic black and white coverage of whaling and the statistics of what was killed, butchered, and defiled is mind boggling. Its a long doco but really worth your time. Brin and I sailed once from New Caledonia to Cairns and we stopped at Chesterfield Reef where we had to be careful where we put our feet down as we walked, for the innumerable eggs and chicks from the thousands of sea birds in the air and on the reef. It was incredible. You can experience a bit of that here. There is some amazing coverage of Walruses and Seals and hunting on the ice. 26million seals were butchered on the ice and the watchword of the sealers was Leave nothing for the Devil. Nor did they. Sea bird eggs became a delicacy so the hunters, could you call them that? would walk along the cliffs stomping on all the eggs then they would come back in a few weeks and pick up the new eggs that the breeding birds had laid ensuring they were fresh. :( :( :( Up to 8 million sea fowl were killed in a year the birds often didn;t have their young. We in NZ are as guilty as any, of doing these crimes, our first capital city was Russell in the North which was a whaling station whose smell carried across the horizon and could be used for navigation! Ive seen numerous Whales on my sailing journeys and they are a feast for the eyes not the palate. Enjoy.
