This is a very unfortunate situation and our sincere condolences - TopicsExpress

This is a very unfortunate situation and our sincere condolences and sympathies go out to the family and friends of these soldiers. This is an unfortunate side-effect of the Pay Our Soldiers Act that put us back to work: our pay is all it is funding. Normal pay and allowances for soldiers and supporting civilians are covered but anything outside of that is not. We have to point out the silver lining to this situation and that is that our Casualty Assistance Center employees were still at work providing services for our Soldiers and their families all through the shutdown last week (if even only half-staffed). Because of this the casualty process was able to take place with minimal interruption. Of course not being able to pay the funeral home for services is NOT minimal to these families and we understand that. Our Soldiers deserve the best care possible to honor their service and sacrifice. Because the services that have been received by this family have been below that standard, we would like to offer our most heartfelt apologies on behalf of the entire federal government. Let us all hope that our legislators work out their issues quickly so that an appropriations bill may be signed and this Soldier’s family can receive what they are due as soon as possible. We have included a link to the Pay Our Soldiers Act for those that might be interested. gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-113hr3210enr/pdf/BILLS-113hr3210enr.pdf
