This is long so if you dont read it all dont comment...... So people are in such an up roar about the minimum wage possibly going up. Now that we have been upset and had our blood pressure elevated lets look at this logically! Single Parent makes $8.25 an hour 40 hours a week that is $330.00 a week BEFORE taxes. Which is $1320.00 a month. Lets be nice and give this person 1 child. We will let them rent a 1 bedroom apartment that rents for $375.00. They have a car its paid for but they need car insurance. We will make them a good driver so that is about $80.00 a month for liability and they are smart so they have a bundle with renters insurance for an additional $8.00 a month so $88.00. Of course they need to eat lets take $100 a week for food. Now we need some gas in our car to get to work so $50.00 a week for gas. We need electricity $90.00 a month, some running water $35.00 a month. Maybe some basic cable and cheap internet for the childs school work $40 for cable $10 for internet. And that pesky health insurance at $120.00 a month. Occasionally they may need soap, toilet paper, laundry soap, toothpaste, deodorant, dish soap. So maybe $30.00 a month for incidentals? Oh wait they are out of money! Well lets up them to $10.00 an hour.....$400.00 a week also pre taxes.....$1600 a month same bills $375.00, $88.00, $400.00, $200.00, $90.00, $35.00, $50.00, $120.00, 30.00. Wow they have $212.00 for oh yeah clothes, shoes, furniture, appliances, and maybe a cell phone! Oh and saving for a rainy day! If you havent lived it dont judge minimum wage is not a living wage and $10.00 an hour isnt much better, but if we raise minimum wage we maybe able to lessen the load on our over burdened government who has to supplement those making minimum wage with Link, section 8, public housing, and medical cards. No one ever gets self sufficient making $8.25 an hour....what if this were you and your child? Just a thought......Im off:)
