This is more a greater capital region thing than all of 518, so my apologies for those in the North Country. This will focus on local television, and primarily news and networks. We had (in channel order) personalities that were with their respective stations, seemingly for ages. Anchors Ernie Tetreault, Dick Wood, Ed Dague (who had been with WRBG)...going back, there was Bob McNamara, Rip Rowan, Howard Tupper, Dick Beech (a couple there were radio guys also), and before they actually used meterologists (nothing against whats there now, but there were personalities) Mary Caroline Powers, Tim Welch, John Wolf. Again, Im not trying to put one station above the others, but I think WRGB was on far more as a kid than the others. WRGB was with NBC, WTEN was CBS and WAST was ABC. And suddenly 10 and 13 swapped networks with WAST > WNYT. Then 6 and 13 swapped networks. There was something I remember very well, when I spent a non-school night at my grandmothers, when we had channel 13 finishing up their television show for the 10 pm hour and the 11 pm news was on soon. It was the voice of John Wolf, and I dont remember the graphic, but I remember these words: It is eleven oclock. Do you know where your children are?
