This is something I put together for Danielle Clifton and Chris Clifton to think about in the next few seconds, hours, days weeks.....we know yall are scared and we are praying for you, some of us have been where you both are right now and its a beautiful thing you are going through. Its something that God has created, accept it and embrace it. The birth of a child is one of the moments in life that you will feel the closest to God as HE is passing off his creation into the world for you two to care for and love. For Chris and Danielle: Labor and childbirth, particularly the first time around, no matter how well-anticipated, are always something of a surprise and maybe even scary. Fact is, your life is about to change. The delivery room drama is both very exciting and emotional, yes Chris it’s okay to cry we all will when we hear Rozalija’s first cry, and it can be hard to know the right thing to do. The truth is, the only person controlling things on delivery day is Rozalija, with maybe a little help from Mother Nature. So even if your birth plan is as detailed as War and Peace, chances are slim that things are going to go the way you two planned. For the first of many times to come Rozalija is in charge, get used to it it’s called being a parent. To help ease both of your fears, jot down five or six points of concern about labor and delivery and discuss them with the doctor, you still have time. For Danielle: Labor and Delivery: Fear of an Epidural While it may be comforting to know an epidural is available, it can also be a source of anxiety. Fear of the procedure, as well side effects including numbness, can cause you to avoid pain medication completely. But doctors say there is little to fear, trust their judgment, they spent all those years in med school, facts are the complication rate is exceedingly small, especially long-term complications. Short-term problems -- like a headache -- are more common but still rare, plus they can be easily treated. Labor and Delivery: Fear of a C-Section With all the recent headlines pushing mother-elected Cesarean births, you might get the idea that this is the delivery method of choice. But doctors say most women still fear the procedure -- and will do everything they can to avoid it, yes Danielle it’s scary, so it’s natural for you to be afraid your mother and I were both afraid and so are most women who have to have a C-Section. It’s mostly fear of the unknown with the first C-section. Concerns mostly are about the after-pain, about the length of time necessary for recovery, about the dangers of being “cut open.” If your doctor does suggest a C-section during labor and delivery, be sure to ask why she thinks its necessary. Think about this reason as you go through the process and go with the flow and trust the person on the other end of the table, that’s why she IS the doctor! I won’t lie, the risk of having a C-section isnt zero, but it is low. If its what your doctor says is necessary for a healthy birth for Rozalija, I wouldnt worry about it. ... Youre more likely to have problems if you try to deliver vaginally when circumstances dictate that you should not. Labor and Delivery: Fear of Pooping on the Table It may not be life-threatening, but a lot of women fear theyll die of embarrassment if what they see as the ultimate labor horror story occurs -- they poop on the delivery table! Most doctors are happy when a woman in labor has a bowel movement, because that almost always means the baby is on the way, that a vaginal delivery is progressing normally, and at that point they won’t have to be concerned about a C-section. Its really a sign that everything is A-OK and if you can just look at it that way, youll forget about the embarrassment and feel as happy because Rozalija is getting ready to enter the world.
