This is the Cholent recipe that was requested just now. Cholent Recipe Ingredients 2-3 lbs of cholent meat (I use boneless chuck, but you can probably use just about anything) 2 marrow bones, if you can get them (I dont really use these) 1/2 – 1 potato per person (at least 4, I usually do 6) 1 large onion, chopped 2 garlic cloves, diced 1/3 – 1/2 cup barley and/or whole oats 1/3 – 1/2 cup beans (not soaked!) — I use white and/or whole uncooked chick peas (I do about 1/3 cup of both) garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt & pepper to taste 1/2 cup ketchup 1/4 cup honey 1/3 cup water Directions Place potatoes on the bottom of crock pot, sprinkle with half of the chopped onions and diced garlic, followed by half of your dried spices. Add meat and marrow bones, then barley and beans. Top with remainder of spices, chopped onions, and garlic. Mix together ketchup, honey and water in a glass measuring cup and pour over the crock pot. Cover and cook on low for at least 15 hours Check water before Shabbat and mix under the beans and grains. Resist the temptation to add more water, at least the first time. What’s so awesome about this cholent is that it’s not watery.
