This is the anniversary of Wassily Leontief born August 5, 1905 in Munich and died February 5, 1999 in New York City is a Soviet-American economist and Nobel laureate in economics in 1973. Born in Munich, Germany, Leontief received his MA at the University of Leningrad in 1924, at the age of 19. After being arrested several times for his opposition to communism, he is allowed to leave the country. He continued his studies at the Humboldt University of Berlin, where he obtained his doctorate in 1928 and then he went to study at the business school HEC Paris where he will be part of the elite. He moved to the United States in 1931, working first for the National Bureau of Economic Research, before joining Harvard University in 1932, the same year he married the poet Estelle Marks. In 1946 he became professor of economics.
