This is the first of my two appeals to all my friends. Here in the PE diocese we have our special collection for the Philippines this weekend. That goes for all other dioceses in Southern Africa as well. I want to remind you all how quite a few years ago, Bishop Mike flew to Mocambique with a big cheque in his pocket, immensely proud of all his people and how generous they had been. A little while ago we were asked to do the same for Haiti. In one weekend our diocese managed to raise well over R100 000, and that included donations from the members of our very poorest most far-flung non-viable parishes. It was absolutely fantastic. Now the Philippines need our help. The need is even worse than the floods in Mocambique and the disaster in Haiti. Please, please be generous this coming weekend. Can you imagine not having water to drink? Being sick and having a doctor looking after 70 000 people but not having any medication? How about sitting down and working out who would be getting a Christmas present this year? And then subtracting R10 from your budget for every person concerned? Add all the R10s and freely and with a great heart place them in the collection basket. Then on your gift card make a note saying You have contributed R 10 to the Philippine Disaster Fund, thank you. Make a difference. God always rewards generosity. His people need you now, so please help. Take care everyone and from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. It is people like you who make this diocese such a special place.
