This is the moment Western Australia’s ‘shark cull’ policy - TopicsExpress

This is the moment Western Australia’s ‘shark cull’ policy became real. The first shark - a three metre female tiger shark - was killed on Australia Day. She was caught, hauled in on a hook and killed with a shotgun blast to the head. Her tail was then cut off and her stomach sliced open to make her sink lifelessly to the ocean floor. Together we can make sure WA Premier Barnett doesn’t get away with this. The West Australian published this gruesome image shortly afterwards. Scientists from Australia and around the world have spoken out, and global news outlets like CNN, Associated Press, BBC World and Al Jazeera [1] are continuing to cover the story. On Saturday, more than 10,000 Australians came together at beaches around the country in an incredible show of support for sharks. Pressure is building to bring this brutal cull to an end. Let’s back this up by ensuring everyone sees the real effects of this bloody policy. On behalf of our oceans, thank you.
