This map of the Honeymoon Trail, traveled by Mormon couples coming from Mexico and Arizona to be married in their St. George temple is the same route taken by Zane Grey in 1907 and 1908 to visits the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and document Jones lassoing mountain lions. The most daunting portion of the trip for him was crossing the Colorado River at Lees Ferry. The picture is from the same time period. The two cables lead up to a thick cable you dont see. The cable was angled across the river so the current would carry the ferry to the other side. The heavy rope the men are pulling was used to pull the ferry the last few feet to the other side. Water was almost at an historic high flood stage when Grey crossed, roughly 100,000 cu. ft./sec. and he was terrified.
