This morning I looked out the window and seen the snow like many - TopicsExpress

This morning I looked out the window and seen the snow like many of my friends. As depressing as snow is, Ethan and I got to talking about something more depressing. We were talking about how they are doing the food bank drive in his High School. You never know when it is the right time to tell you child about your past but I figured today was the day. Ethan now knows how there was a period of time that we relied on the food bank and how one Christmas the majority of toys under our tree came from Toys for Joys. (Although, on the phone when I placed our request for the Christmas hamper I asked them to not bring toys, our boys would not notice and would not remember the event when they were older. They said they would not deliver them after they tried to convince me to accept them but delivered them.) The conversation was hard for him and he was full of questions but now he fully understand why we follow a budget, plan meals, save better the squires, pay cash up front etc and why we drill it into the boys over and over again. As the conversation came to a close he wanted to do something that would get more people to give and how can we raise awareness. (up to today his thought of a person using a food bank were hobos, those who slept on the street or those who have drug problems, gamble, or drink to much. We never fit into those categories. We were the working poor with student loan debt.) Regular people like you and me use the food bank. Those who lose their job from a lay off, those who move thinking they are moving to a better place but quickly find out it is worse, fall ill and can not work etc. Most work very hard each and every day and for what every reason life throws a curve ball so big that you need to ask for someones help. Ethan and I came up with the Roll in the Snow Challenge. Get down to your shorts and roll as far as you can. If you are unwilling to accept the challenge please donate this holiday season to your local food bank. (or do the challenge and give anyway) For those of you in Labrador West donate to the food bank, Toys for Joys, Gamble your loose change on the turkey wheels that the KofC host - then donate your turkey back to them or pass it along to someone, buy some PJs (I do not know if the lady is doing it this year and I do not remember her name) ask your kids to pick up some toys and drop them in the donation boxes that you will see at the mall and in the school, status of women do a mom gift drive, buy some iTunes cards, meals cards, what ever and give it away. This season give back or suffer the roll in the freezing cold snow. Have fun everyone. (sorry about the sound quality. The wind was blowing as we recorded video and Ethan did not want to do a re take. lol) https://youtube/watch?v=TcGXVuJMBKw&feature=youtu.be
