This morning I set off again on my global exploration via the internet by watching a short video featuring Syrian writer Khaled Khalifa, author of the novel In Praise of Hatred. Khaled is pro-revolution. In the video Khaled raises the kinds of questions one would expect of an artist and many of the points a pro-revolutionary would express. Its evident he sees the success of the revolution as bringing down the regime of Bashar al-Assad. But this is a very worrying, blinkered and naive view, and something Ive seen ALL revolutions fall foul of. The reality on the ground is that the NATO backed so called jihadists are certainly NOT fighting for the kind of Syria that Khalid, who talks warmly of Democracy, would like. Far from it. They are supposedly fighting for Shariah, or perhaps more accurately, something they call Shariah, which it seems they will administer and police. Judging by what we have seen thus far, it will be the antithesis of what Khaled believes will result from the fall of the regime. And thats a major problem here, people have bought into the marketing mans image of it. Fluffy poetical expressions of righteous struggle against tyrant has lodged itself firmly between the ears. The afflicted cannot see the dark times that lie ahead, for they will be dark times. These juhadists have proved this with numerous despicable acts. One does not build a glorious state of Islam on perversion and evil. But lets indulge the marketing men for a second. Lets ignore the fact the jihadists rejected the Democratic Syrian opposition, i.e. the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) and that the so called jihadists are the overwhelmingly significant force in terms of military opposition to Assad in Syria, dwarfing actually Syrian resistance groups. Indeed, lets assume Syria become Democratic. Aaah Democracy: The answer to Mankinds problems, the ONLY form of worthy governance. Yes, its true, if your like to entertain the absurd that is. Democracy is an illusion, a mirage obscuring unchallengeable predatory forces that will inflict mass economic oppression (primarily through monetary riba and riba based loans) which only know how to destroy. Where foreign tycoons will rape Syria resources with the help of an domestic wealthy elite and a middle class to buffer the objections of the oppressed class and act as a tantalising sector of Syrian society to aspire to enter such lofty ranks - the proverbial donkey and carrot. Friends have described how Syria has still not experienced or resisted the new world orders withering touch of globalisation and thank God for that. And what of Israel, oh Israyhell, that zone of gross evil completely irrelevant to our dear oblivious jihadists. There simply isnt any point elaborating on what plots await Syria from that direction given its utter transparency. So there we have it. Artists and pro-revolutionaries marching naively and ignorantly towards their doom. My heart goes out to the Syrian people, trapped between this rock and a hard place.
